Websites as applications

To view websites as simple "static" information resources is to vastly underestimate the potential power and usefulness of the internet. The web has a huge range of technologies that can be deployed on it which allow websites to become web applications.

A web application could be thought of as being a bit like an application you would use on your desktop PC, but instead of it residing on your computer, it is accessed via a web browser over the internet.

Whereas a standard website is somewhere you go to read or view information, a web application or dynamic web page is somewhere you go to do something. That is, you can input a response, and get a response back again. This could be something as simple as performing a Job Search on a Recruitment Agency website and being delivered a set of matching job vacancies back to you. Or it it could be a full Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to allow, for example, a hotel to manage new bookings, view who's checking in or out and to generate guest invoices.

We've developed countless bespoke modules and full applications for websites so have lots of experience in how to turn an idea on a piece of paper into a fully functioning online solution. If you are wondering if something is possible, the answer is most definitely "yes" - just get in touch and we'd be happy to discuss it with you.

Technologies & Platforms

We undertake web development work on a number of different platforms and technology frameworks. If you're having a web application built from scratch, the chances are that we'll recommend that it's built on an open source and widely used framework such as CodeIgniter. Or for websites that require a Content Management System, the excellent ExpressionEngine CMS is a good starting point.

We also work with Flash/Actionscript 3.0, Smarty Templating, AJAX, .NET and Object Oriented PHP5. Database functionality is usually built on MySQL or MS SQL Server. In the past we've also had experience with Cubecart, Etomite, Modx CMS, Wordpress, Joomla, Clip Share and plenty of projects have involved integration with sites such as Youtube, Vimeo and countless others too numerous to mention.
